We have three singing ensembles under Grand Canyon Performing Arts.
Formerly the Phoenix Metropolitan Men's Chorus, the Phoenix Gay Men's Chorus is our flagship ensemble. What was originally a recital choir has grown into a “show chorus,” with performances featuring costuming, staging, video productions, dance, and orchestration. We are proud to be a sought after performing arts group here in Phoenix, not just in the LGBTQ+ community, but in the broader community as well. Performance highlights include: International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, Equality Arizona Annual Gala, World AIDS Day, National Anthem performed at Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Phoenix Coyotes games, and benefit performances for PFLAG, Aunt Rita's Foundation, Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, one-n-ten, The Trevor Project, and the Tyler Clementi Foundation. PHXGMC has performed or collaborated with many national artists and organizations, including: Folk singer Holly Near, comedians Leslie Jordan and Margaret Cho, Thelma Houston, Prince Poppycock, Kristine W, and David Hernandez.
PHXGMC is a member of GALA Choruses (the International Gay & Lesbian Association of Choruses), and has participated in seven GALA Festivals: Tampa, FL (1996), San Jose, CA (2000), Seattle, WA (2002), Montreal, Canada (2004), Miami, FL (2008), Denver, CO (2012), and Denver, CO (2016).
Canyon Echoes is the small ensemble of 20 singers who act as ambassadors of Grand Canyon Performing Arts. These talented singers spread our musical message, and promote the chorus and our concerts by performing on local news programs, at charity events, and at various other functions across the Valley. The singers who make up Canyon Echoes work very hard to master their craft – rehearsing countless hours in addition to full chorus rehearsals.
Founded in 2012, Omaggio LGBTQ+ Youth Chorus is open to teens and young adults from all backgrounds across the greater Phoenix community. Omaggio provides a safe outlet for supporting and fostering personal and group creativity, growth, and artistic expression. Omaggio made their debut performance at the 2013 Blush & Bashful Gala, hosted by the Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus. Omaggio Youth Chorus is the only LGBTQ+ youth chorus in the Southwest United States, and one of only 9 in the nation.
Grand Canyon Performing Arts is the non-profit umbrella organization that manages all our performing arts ensembles.
