We're just beside ourselves that you're interested in singing with us! Over the moon even. Let's be real... we're over the rainbow!
Auditions for the Spring 2023 season have concluded.
Auditions for Fall 2023 will start in August.
Our chorus is filled with members who have a passion for choral music, and celebrate diversity, honor creativity, and cultivate pride through musical performance. We welcome anyone to audition who is interested and has a commitment to our mission!
Auditions are normally held August-September for the Fall season, and January for the Spring/Summer season.
Our members come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and skill levels. Auditions are used to place you in the proper vocal section and to assess your skills. For singing members, some basic musical skills are required. Some level of proficiency in reading music is required. Music sight-reading is helpful but not required.
Prior to auditioning, we encourage you to attend an open rehearsal. These are actual rehearsals as the chorus prepares for an upcoming concert. This will give you an idea of what to expect on a weekly basis if you become a member. Feel free to sit and observe, or sit with a buddy and sing along. Sign-ups for auditions are taken, or an actual audition may be held at the conclusion of each open rehearsal.
If you'd like to sit in on a rehearsal before joining, please contact us.
We know that an audition can be nerve-wracking. Relax! We’ll do our best to make the process as friendly and informal as possible! Auditions are held in person with our artistic staff. At your audition, your range and basic sight-reading skills will be assessed with vocal warm-ups and pitch-matching exercises.
You will be contacted within a week of the audition, if not immediately following, depending on the audition schedule and number of auditions. We won’t keep you waiting!
A New Member Orientation and social to introduce you to the organization and current members usually takes place after fall auditions. If you join at other times during the year, we’ll make sure you receive an orientation and receive all needed materials. Whenever you join, Section Cheerleaders in your chorus will help answer questions and help familiarize you with PHXGMC. You’ll also receive a Member Handbook containing detailed information about the chorus and its policies.
Our chorus rehearses on Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm at the Parsons Center for Health & Wellness, 1101 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
We perform two major concerts per year: Holiday and our Spring or Summer Finale. Each concert is performed two or three times over a weekend. The week preceding regular concerts is “Tech Week” when dress rehearsals and run-throughs of the concert program are held. You will be notified of any special rehearsal locations, times, and updates through announcements at rehearsals, chorus newsletters, and our members-only website.
In addition to our regular concert season, each member may participate in outreach performances in the Phoenix area throughout the year.
